The pimento cheese fritters with bacon jam were the first thing we ate. Thank you in advance.Ībove average brunch - but it didn’t blow my socks off. Highlight: It wasn’t major but the animal area made my sons day. The view towards Charleston is nice as well. And even stay for the full day with a meal to sit and have a lunch on a table or lay a blanket to dine by the marsh. It’s expansive indeed and I can see how people can leave and return. It took us about 2 hours to walk 3.5 miles reading, taking pictures and enjoying the space. After walking 2 miles we started seeing shuttle stop signs, fortunately my son was a trooper the grounds were peaceful. Information about the shuttle and tour wasn’t shared. More information (again, outside) could be provided to bring this to life for visitors. The tiki statue, statue of the chief, native foundation and the marker for the African gravesite are minuscule and passive at best. However, it is well known how much African and Indigenous Americans viewed the land, yet, it didn’t seem to be an earnest effort to share more (outside) about them. I would have hoped that the outside could have provided more engagement for multigenerational visitors but I do see it’s efforts. I never knew the connection to the Caribbean specifically Barbados for Charles Towne but now I do. I enjoyed the inside museum which really brought together the history of the park, the significance and founding of Charleston. I know the draw for me was the African American cemetery, the slave quarters, and the ship however they were non-existent during my visit. The park is beautiful plus we went on a really gorgeous day. Some exhibits are closed but worth a visit if you want to save some money while visiting. I would definitely recommend this park to anyone visiting Charleston.įinancial Fact: Free admission the day after Thanks-Taken & December 25. Several playgrounds and splash pads for kids Large, open spaces with plenty of room to walk, run, or bike Here is a Google traveler review for Joe Riley Waterfront Park:īeautiful waterfront location with stunning views of the Cooper River All in all this place is amazing for families and as they finish with all the additional upgrades it will only get better. There is a beautiful lake in which to do water sports and fishing but we just enjoyed looking as it was kind of cool still. Our son had a blast riding the banana bikes that we rented from the front desk and again Jeff was amazing with helping with that. They also have a wonderful walking trail that me and my husband spent lots of time on and would definitely recommend that for anyone staying there. The bathhouses were clean and offered regular showers without the annoying push buttons that most campgrounds have. We were lucky as the bathhouse was right across the road so didn’t have to walk far for that. It included one full size bed, bunk beds, small fridge, small TV, and a table and chair setup. Now for the technical stuff, the cabin we stayed in was perfect for the camping family. Y’all helped make our stay a wonderful one that none of us will soon forget. We had a blast doing the Easter Egg scavenger hunt around the campground, all the painting activities, and watching the HOP movies while munching on some popcorn. Jenny and Buddy the activities directors made our stay an enjoyable one with all the Easter Festivities. Jeff at the front desk was kind and very knowledgeable and made the check in process a breeze.
